Juan S. Gómez Cruces

Welcome! / ¡Bienvenidos! / ¡Bem-vindos!

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Governance, Technology and Policy research group at the Hasso-Plattner Institute of the Universität Potsdam. I am part of the Path to Power, an academic research project funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). This project aims to understand the profound transformations in politics and society in the digital age.

I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science at Georgia State University with my dissertation entitled: Digital Divides and Dialogues: A Multidimensional Analysis of Populist Rhetoric, Social Media Interaction, and Societal Polarization in Latin America. My areas of specialization include comparative politics and political methodology with emphasis on quantitative and computational social science methods.

My research has been published in the Journal of Computational Social Science and as a chapter contribution in the The Ideational Approach to Populism, Volume II: Consequences and Mitigation. In the past, I collaborated as a Graduate Research Fellow for the Digital Threats to Democracy initiative at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
